Noni Muchiri and her friend Mahala Oduor were the brains behind the Strictly Fashion event at the Potter House school. The charity fashion event held on Saturday the 11th of January 2013, featured creations from designers Dave Cloth. Dave Cloth is run by Dave Oduor, a designer whose works were showcased at the Kenya fashion week last year. Designs from young Noni Muchiri were also featured in the show. The two young fashion enthusiasts put together a great event that showcased various talents. Participants were below the age of 18 and were from disciplines ranging from musicians to budding models, designers and even event planners (Noni & Mahala)

Strictly Fashion was held to raise awareness on child abandonment, and all the proceeds went to the Nest Children’s Home with whom Noni Had previously worked with as a volunteer. Many times we feel like we cannot make a big enough impact when it comes to causes we are passionate about. Noni, Mahala, and all their friends prove the doubters in all of us wrong. The money raised from the event will go a long way in assisting the Nest Children’s Home and creating awareness of the child abandonment issue.

Designs at the event were a breath of fresh air, with new and daring designs all around for those in attendance to marvel over. The pieces on display were up for sale, and it was inspiring  to see such young talent being able to express themselves creatively. Just maybe one of the featured designers’ names will be gracing the runways various fashion Meccas such as Paris, New York or even London very soon. They have done right by themselves and will surely bring Kenya to the fore as a fashion destination.

In the mean time, we continue to keep a keen eye out on our younger generations and delight in their efforts to become stand out individuals personally and within society.
